Born on May 14, 1969 in Ivanhoe, Melbourne, Australia, Catherine Élise Blanchett began her acting career when she was in the TV series Heartland, Bordertown and Police Rescue. Blanchett was then in the movies Police Rescue, Parklands and made her international film debut in 1997 in Paradise Road and in that same year took her first leading role in Oscar and Lucinda. In 1998 Blanchett starred as Elizabeth I of England in the hit movie Elizabeth, before she was in The Talented Mr. Ripley and the hugely successful The Lord of the Rings. Blanchett has since been in The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou, The Aviator, Babel, Notes on a Scandal, I'm Not There and Elizabeth: the Golden Age.
