Born on December 3, 1965, in Staaken, East Germany, Katarina Witt began her ice skating career at a young age, at nine years old Witt began being coached by Jutta Mueller and by 1982 Witt had come second in both the European and World Figure Skating Championships. In 1983 Witt won the European Championship, she continued to win for six more years til 1988. Meanwhile Witt had won the World Championship in 1984, 1985, 1987, and 1988 and won at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games.
